Mangroves in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, Philippines
"I just want to share the experience we had upon exploring the mangrove forest in Binuni, Bacolod, Lanao del Norte"
Bacolod, the fourth coastal municipality of Lanao del Norte . It is located in the northern part of Mindanao. Bacolod has a land area of 10,410 ha and a coastal length of 2,470 km. The mangrove forest in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte is naturally made. They even said that it's already there by the time they're not yet even born. Mangrove is a type of forest growing along tidal mudflats and along
shallow coastal water extending inland along rivers, streams and their tributaries where
the water is generally brackish. It is a carbon sinkers and can cushion the effects of the coastal storms, waves, erosion and floods.
The purpose of our field research is to witness the marine biodiversity of the place upon swam ecosystems serve as breeding grounds for different species of marine life and mangrove trees which lead to the development of a terrestrial ecosystem. Thus have played an important role on ecological and socio-economic values to man.
As we arrived, we have difficulty entering the area due to the mud, knowing that we have to walk it for 2 kilometers to reach the most part of the mangrove forest. At first, we did not expect that we have to go through the situation especially most of us is just our first time to explore mangrove forest.
As we go through to the muddy area we thought that that was the hardest part of the situation but IT IS NOT because upon reaching the most part of the area we really had a hard time to pass through because of the small thorn of the trees. The struggles we had was replaced by mesmerizing the beauty of the mangrove forest as we treasure the nature and enjoying the moment we had on our team.
